What're all these guests doing? Why don't they all either register or log in? For example, I saw a guest viewing the sheep thread. Why? I didn't think any registered members (other than Matt and myself) would voluntarily view that thread, so why's a guest looking at it? confused

You mean that my thread in which theological stuff gets discussed might end up being shown in amongst the results returned when horny farmers google on yahoo? yikes I think I might have to start a "results found when googling Lovely's thread topic names" or summit like that. On the other hand, maybe that's not such a good idea.

There's another guest online now. Another searchbot?

Google this time. You can only google on google, otherwise it's just searching.

I doubt we'll come up near the top when you search the topic names.

Actually, Schaf, you CAN use google as a verb for searching on other search engines.

That'd be the point! We'd search for random thread names and see what else they come up with. Or not. Wasn't one of my better ideas, I'll give you that.

Status: the sheep thread in religion etc. It's called 'sheep', strangely enough.

Lets think about why the dictionary you got was 50p. A bit broken and out of date perhaps? Anyway, google's been a verb for ages, my dictionary, though predating the use of google with the meaning we are discussing, still has 'google' as a verb:

goog'le vi (of a ball) to spin like a googly.

And you listen to cricket...

Apparently Google don;t like people using Google as a general term for searching because it devalues the brand name google, if it becomes a common place pharse then their legal hold on the word google becomes untennable because it's a common usage word.

And? You expect us to care about what Google's lawyers think of our use of their trademarked name? What're they going to do to us? They can't sue us for trademark infringement, because you can't copyright a verb. If they don't like us using their name as a generic verb, then tough swearsmiley !
