My mother before a couple of years ago when she started reading would hate watching films of books with me and my Dad as we being the traditional readers in the family would then discuss the comparison between film and book.

Charlie Wilson's War was a better film as it wasn't as heavy.

I actually blame the women scriptwriters on LotR more than Jackson myself but he let them get involved.

There is a film which I saw recently and thought it was better than the book, can't remember what it was though.

I've not read the book but have heard people say that 'Fight Club' the film is better than 'Fight Club' the book. Having read another book by Chuck Palahniuk I can see how that could be true.

I was gonna buy that Gidds, any good?

Zsu, do you mean Palahniuk  isn't very good? I've only read a short story of his, but I've been tempted to buy Rant just for the awesome cover:

Books Always First! angry

The book is usually the better of the two though, when watching the film second it usually results in complaints about all the good bits that were missing. Doing it the other way round results in additional good bits rather than less.  nod Usually. There are some exceptions.
Yeah, but then you can't be sure what you might have interpreted differently had you not seen the film first. Book first, cos either the film will be fantastic which is good, or you get to be smug and "not as good as the book though was it?".

Nah he's good, but his writing is very much what would be described as 'stream of consciousness' and it gets tiresome after a while.
I read 'Lullaby' (Bear lent it to me once), which is very good but I found that I could only read a little bit at a time because I got sick of the lack of punctuation. Apparently 'Fight Club' is very similar.

stream of consciousness is the best way to write.

I say that mostly as it's my standard style. I got marked down from a level 7 sat to level 4 because each of my paragraphs was only one sentence. It's as if the examiner had never heard of Joyce.

Just finished it status. Its excellent. Maconie's writing is funny and incisive. Twas a good history lesson too. Essential reading for northerners fed up with soft shandy drinking southerners.

I was tempted to just cite D Wallace as the author...
It's brilliant, and I'm only 16 pages in (of a thousand or so...).

I thought Fight Club film was better, but the book is good, and I like the book's very slightly different ending.

Lullaby I rather enjoyed.

Diary is another one of his that is okay.

Haunted is weird. I enjoyed that the least.
