Want to attempt a "best of 2011" thing similar to IGN's list?

Best Moment of the Year
■Bruce Wayne Gets a Letter From His Dad
■DC Relaunches
■Tim Drake talks to Boomerang in #26 of Red Robin
■Reading the final page of the first issue of Flashpoint
■...struggling to think of something. 12 months is a long time... Maybe the bat-family all being together in the lounge, getting ready to watch a film.

Best New Series (assuming this excludes continuing series' that existed before the New52 but were just renumbered #1...)
■Animal Man
■Hellraiser
■Planet of the Apes
■Aquaman
■Ultimate Comics Ultimates

Best Mini-Series
■Batman: Gates of Gotham
■Flashpoint: Deathstroke - Curse of the Ravager
■Flashpoint: Batman - Knight of Vengeance
■'68
■Batman Inc (counts, right?)

Best Story Arc
■Black Mirror (Detective Comics) (started late 2010 but finished mid-2011)
■Skeleton Cases (Detective Comics) (not sure whether this counts? It was part of Black Mirror but separate, if you see what I mean)
■Seven Days of Death (Red Robin)
■Flashpoint (don't care - haters gonna hate an' all that)
■Hellraiser (not sure what the actual arc is called, but the whole thing is just one continuous story. There's no "part 1, 2, 3" thing going on)

Best Art Team
■Greg Capulo + other people I imagine (Batman)
■Charlie Adlard, Cliff Rathburn (The Walking Dead)
■Diogenes Neves, Vicente Cifuentes (Green Arrow: Brightest Day)
■Leonardo Manco + whoever else it is that works on the art (Hellraiser)
■Jay Fotos, Nat Jones, Tim Vigil ('68)

Best Writer
■Scott Snyder
■Fabian Nicieza
■Jeff Lemire
■Geoff Johns (haters gon....etc)
■Jonathan Hickman

Best Series of the Year
■Detective Comics (with Snyder, not the new one with Daniel, which has been ok but obviously not as good... pre-new52)

~An added bonus category:

Best Cartoon Series Based on a Comic of the Year
■Batman: Brave & The Bold
■Young Justice
■Avengers: Earths Mightiest Warriors
■Green Lantern: TAS

I normally just buy graphic novel collection things these days, so most of the stuff I've read was probably from before this year

Finally dropped Ultimates and Ultimate X-Men from my pull list. Read UX-M on Tuesday, saw Scarlett Witch, decided I didn't want to read this book any more. Ultimates I just can't be arsed to spend more money on if Hickman is off the title soon anyway.

But, I did end up adding a few extra titles so I'm not saving any more money  doh

Action Comics,
Adventure Time*,
Animal Man,
Aquaman,
Batgirl* (starting with issue 7 to tie in with the Court of Owls story)
Batman,
Batman and Robin,
Batman Incorporated*
Batman Incorporated Leviathan Strikes,
Deathstroke,
Detective Comics,
Flash,
Green Arrow,
Hellraiser,
Hellraiser Annual,
Justice League,
Justice League Dark,
Justice League International,
Manhattan Projects* (Hickman's new title that's got a lot of buzz surrounding it atm)
Nightwing,
Secret* (only just read up on it yesterday, also by Hickman)
The Shadow* (the new series by Garth Ennis)
Superman,
Swamp Thing

The ones with an * are titles that haven't started yet. Seems like quite a lot when I type it out like that.  scared

I'm also getting the Planet of the Apes comics in trade format, as well as The Walking Dead. Will be catching up on American Vampire at some point too as I only own the first trade, and I'll possibly be reading Sweet Tooth and iZOMBIE soon depending on how I get on with the first trades. Maybe going back and purchasing Locke & Key too after enjoying the first trade.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, but I've been reading the Walking Dead lately. I read 50 issues of it in under 2 days, and now I want more but there isn't any more.

Can't say I've heard of it? Is it really that good? Reckon they'll make it into a movie or something?

It's already been made into a TV show. The show is what got me interested in the comics, but after the first or second issue the two diverge quite a bit.

It was a lampoon. I was lampooning you. I mention Walking Dead on pretty much every page. Thrice on this one, even. Infact, I mentioned I was reading it in the post directly above yours. I've also been reading it for longer than you have.

Sickburnnnnnnn loosser etc.

Yeah, er, it is good.

The new52 Batman has been utterly, utterly brilliant. The Night of Owls crossover story kicked off last week with the prelude in Nightwing (which was tremendous) and then the first "proper" bit in Batman. But all the build up to it has been really well handled by Snyder.  upsmiley

Also read The Shadow #1 by Ennis. It's alright; didn't read very Ennis-y but I have faith!

I'm trying to find cost effective ways to get back into comics/graphic novels. May foray over to a bookshop in the US didn't really help much in that it wasn't that much cheaper, and that's the really big issue, comics compared to other forms of entertainment are pretty pricey. The other issue is they take up a lot of space, I was looking at maybe something like marvel digital, or DC equivalent (or both) any one had good/bad experiences? What do you get for your money. Access to only older storylines wouldn't be an issue because I haven't read that much and there's decades of everything I've not read.

Looking at possibly going down the digital route for newer titles too.

Any recommendations?  Suggestions?

Comixology/digital is definitely the way to go to save money. Comics are cheaper anyway, they'll save you paying p&p, and they won't take up space.

I've got a Marvel Digital Comics account but barely use it anymore. I do like it althouh it's not the most user friendly site out there. Think it's 39 a year ish, has a great back catalogue too. I read loads on there last year/year before; House of M, 1602, Dark Phoenix saga, Cable & Deadpool, Astonishing X-Men, Ultimate Spider-Man, Planet/World War Hulk, Ultimates 1 & 2, Ultimate Galactus saga etc etc. Loads of stuff which is worth it for the price.

Comixology ain't bad, it isn't necessarily cheaper though, my local comic shop is only more expensive on 3.99 issues.

On new issues, aye, but they have lots of sales of older/indie stuff every so often (60p issues etc).
