Pompey obviously had no money until yesterday. And its usually the journeymen left for sale on the last day. It'll be interesting how his championship players core with the prem. They made shit loads of cash this summer. How much debt must they be in!

A scary amount. 5 of the players they signed are on loan, too.  wacko

I think it was on the Guardian live text updates where someone said that Portsmouth were doing brilliantly in the transfer window and were quickly amassing the best squad for the championship

to be fair, Van Den Borre is half decent, belhadj looks useful and Jamie O'Haras' a good player too.

I dunno, I reckon the only players in that team who should be playing for teams higher up the table are James, Belhadj and Finnan (if he could stay fit).

Hart
Carr, R Johnson, Ridgewell, Queudrue
Carsley
Larsson, Ferguson, Fahey, McFadden
Benitez

That would be our preferred eleven I think, with McFadden moving forward and Fahey moving to the left when we're in possession. Maybe Murphy would start instead of Queudrue, and maybe Bowyer in place of Carsley/Fahey... But going on that, I would probably say a combination of the two would look like:

James
Carr, R Johnson, Mokoena, Belhadj
Carsley
Larsson, Ferguson, O'Hara, McFadden
Benitez

Pompey: 4
Birmingham: 7

Of course, that is extremely biased Wink

Me too  smug

I don't know if we will, though. I think we're going to get fucked about by this Carson Yeung take-over again.

He's our top goal scorer so far (2 in league and cup). McFadden and Carsley have scored our other two...

I'm not sure we'll be relying on Bowyer that much though really. Attacking wise, I think our season is hanging on McFadden, Benitez and our defence. Last time we were in the Premier League, scoring goals wasn't a problem. McFadden, Forssell, Larsson and Zarate were scoring for fun. Our problem was that for every goal we scored, we conceded two.

What worries me is that most of our defence are the same as last time. Queudrue, Murphy, Ridgewell, Parnaby, Taylor and Taylor. Only Kelly and Jaidi have left since then. But Roger Johnson looks the fucking business, and as you said, Hart could be the key to our season. Scott Dann is meant to be a promising young English centre back too, and Ridgwell and Queudrue improved vastly last season (although Ridgewell is out until about x-mas).

Half our defence are out injured at the moment, and we have only conceded 3 goals in 4 games. 2 against Spurs and 1 against Man Utd...

I really don't know where we'll end up. If the take-over goes tits up like last time, we'll get relegated. If Yeung takes over, we'll probably survive by the skin of our teeth, but I doubt he'll actually invest any money in January... It's a tough one to call. Luckily for us, I think there are teams a lot shitter than us in the league. Pompey being one of them.

true. Its gonna be tough. Bowyer is a cunt, but he can play football. He is important as he has the experience adn isn't quite 'past it' yet. McFadden should be brilliant but needs to find consistancy, we all know he's fucking skillfull.
I liked the look of Benitez, he looks like he'll be a real pain in the arse for opposing defenders.

Benitez played a through ball for Bowyer in the Carling Cup that was like nothing anyone in a Blues shirt has ever done before.

Bowyer is an odd one. He is quite obviously a decent footballer, and in a midfield 3 with Ferguson and Carsley, he is suited perfectly to our style of play. He's a box to box midfielder who gets in the right positions to score, Carsley does all the dirty work covering defence and Ferguson can pass the ball better than 90% of our team. The only problem with them 3 playing like that is that none of them have an ounce of pace between them.

Neither do McFadden or Larsson.

Jerome is probably the quickest of our team but finishes once in about 5 attempts.

Benitez looks too good for us, but I don't think McLeish trusts him to start up front on his own just yet. So he is mainly an impact sub. Will probably look shite if he starts for us against the Vile.

I thought Ferguson was shite too, but actually, he's been fairly decent. One of our most consistent players this season.

Yeah... I'm waiting for that to happen.  Sad Him and Bowyer out on the razz.

Good job we didn't sign Barton on loan, really. Although all 3 would probably get along quite well and actually form a decent partnership in midfield...
