Striking because the government wants to cut the compensation package when they make people redundant. It's not the most media friendly cause, I'll admit.

only because the media are cunts.

If people want to force large cuts in government spending and thus massive public sector job cuts then the decent thing to do is to give all those people who are to be made unemployed a good send off so that they don't suffer too much in the time it'll take to get another job.

Having a job is still better and when you're losing your job the fact that having the job is better than not isn't really much comfort.

What the country needs is more social responsibility and a firm foundation for steady sustainable economic growth that isn't undermined by the rabid profiteering of a market that is too free (such as the banking sector) or lack of econmic stimulus caused by the government deciding not to influence the economy at all due to misinterpreting the true needs of the economy based on poor political thought

beaucracy is a mess, also it doesn't really matter as they'll just charge you any overpayments back and take the money anyway.

Plus what does that have to do with it being better to be in a job or not?

I wouldn't mind getting made redundant, getting paid to leave a crappy job, it would be brilliant. It won't happen to me though.
